How to Have a Self Care Summer

Hi everyone, happy August! Today we’ll be discussing all things self-care.

How to take care of yourself both physically and mentally. It’s important to dedicate time to bettering your mind, body, and soul.

A growth mindset is key when it comes to taking care of yourself.

It is crucial that each day we take moments to reflect, journal, pray, and have an overall awareness of who we are and what direction we are headed in.

Self care is self love – caring for yourself helps you to care for the ones you love.

When we love who we are and where we are headed, we strive for greatness, and prioritize filling our cup instead of emptying it out on things that are not important.

It’s easy for our mind, body, and soul to be drained from external things and people.

However, coming to the realization that everything we need and desire should come from within, as we are worthy of all the love we pour out to others!

Without further ado, let’s get into ways we can transform the remainder of summer by returning our love and care to ourselves!

1. Create a Self-Improvement List

For the list, create two columns: one labeled “strengths” and the other “weaknesses.”

It’s essential to analyze our shortcomings and identify ways in which we can improve and grow, not for anyone else, but for ourselves.

In the strengths column, list your good habits/practices you follow on a day-to-day basis.

Some examples could be waking up early, getting your chores done in the morning, setting 30 minutes aside to read, etc.

In the weaknesses column, list all of your inconsistent behaviors/negative cycles.

Whether always getting takeout, impulsive spending, constant scrolling on your phone, or overthinking… It is crucial to be honest with ourselves and admit where we fall short.

Sit with your list for 5-10 minutes and decipher how you will move forward and take action!

2. Self Care Day Checklist

You are probably tired of lists by now… but trust me a list is your best friend!

Schedule an entire day for yourself.

Create a list of all the things you want to complete and just do it!

Book a manicure, go to the bookstore and pick out something you’ve been dying to read, dress up and go to a fancy restaurant, do an activity outside, take a yoga or spin class, etc.

Whatever your heart desires, treat yourself for the whole day! We all deserve a break, and time to appreciate ourselves when we are not running around.

Go to your local Target, Sephora, Ulta, and pick out your favorite self care products. For me, I love face masks, eye masks, lip masks, body scrubs, and a good scented moisturizing lotion.

Cherish and acknowledge how far you have come. In every good and bad moment, you are making progress towards a better you! That is something worth celebrating!

3. Reflect on Your Day

That night or the next day, take some time either journaling or just thinking, and reflect on how you felt doing different activities to help improve your outlook.

What type of experience was it? Did you feel comfortable spending time with yourself? Do you take self care days frequently?

Being able to enjoy your own company is a peaceful feeling. If you rarely have self care days, make more time for what you deserve.

Having a day for yourself is not about going on a shopping spree, it is about finding different activities that bring you happiness, and help you further develop your passions.

It also gives you time to reflect on how to improve and become the best you!

4. Incorporate Small Self Care Practices Everyday

Whether you treat yourself to a coffee or smoothie once a week, or focus on mindfulness and journaling at the end of every day, the smallest measures can change your mindset.

This can change how you show up for yourself and for others.

The road ahead is not always easy… but when we work with ourselves and not against ourselves, our life becomes more serene.

I hope you embrace this advice and incorporate more love into your life, while sharing that love with others as well.

Once you have filled your cup, you can positively pour into others.

Helping others to see how you love can change their life, and transform how they show up too!
