How to Host a Last Minute Fourth of July Party
Hi everyone! Today we will discuss how to throw the best Fourth of July party out there!
Let’s be honest, parties can be a lot of work. From the decorations to the food and dessert, to party favors, and more, it can add up quickly!
That is why we will be discussing last-minute affordable party ideas! As July 4th is this week, there is no time to waste so start planning now!
I know it can be tempting to purchase red white and blue glitter utensils and other cute decorations but before any of that, the first step is to make a list.
I emphasize lists a lot… because they are a game changer!
Trying to remember everything in your head doesn’t work.
However, jotting your thoughts or ideas down makes everything clear and concise. So stick with a list.
1. Party List
Create a list either on your computer or paper and create five different columns.
Google Sheets is a great option for creating a list with multiple tasks/items.
You should have five columns, one for the amount of guests, another for food, drinks, dessert, and any games/forms of entertainment.
Having an estimate of how much food, drinks and dessert you will need is important.
It is much better to be over-prepared rather than underprepared.
Buying a little extra is always a safe call in case guests bring an unexpected friend or family member.
It is better to have leftovers than none at all.
Once everything is categorized, then figure out if the food will be cooked or catered.
2. Send out Evite Invitations
The easiest way to send out a cute invitation is digitally. Evites are more personable than a text message and they are super convenient to create.
Be creative with your invitations. What style, font, and colors will you choose?
Make sure to include the details, such as what will be served, the time, address, and phone number to RSVP.
3. Start Shopping!
Once you know how many guests are coming, it is time to shop!
The best way to prepare is to buy everything in bulk. When grocery shopping, check off or highlight the items right after you put them in the cart.
The more checked off, the more motivated you will feel!
Grocery shopping is not the most fun task if you ask me, however, finding ways to shop more efficiently will help save time.
4. Decorations
Decorating for the Fourth is one of the easiest holidays because all you need is red, white, and blue! My top must-have decorations!
1. American flag
2. Balloons
3. Wreaths
4. Banners
5. Decorative plates, napkins, and utensils
It doesn’t take much to decorate nicely.

Whether it is a cute tablecloth, a patriotic charcuterie board, or red, white, and blue flowers, the smallest things can make such a difference, without having to spend a fortune!
5. Entertainment
There is nothing worse than having no activites or games for your guests.
Whether that is a sundae or margarita bar, entice your guests with good food, refreshing drinks, and thrilling fireworks!
One way to entertain the company outdoors is to have games such as cornole, volleyball, basketball, or even relay races in the pool.
Volleyball nets and games you can set up in the yard are mostly affordable and easy to set up.
A good Fourth of July playlist with some speakers will do the job of entertaining as well.
Even if you focus the playlist on pop and country songs, try to include a mix of genres so everyone can have an enjoyable time!
Playing some jazz tunes during appetizers and the buffet hour is a perfect way to set the mood.
6. Party Favors
No matter how small or big, to-go gifts for your guests is a nice and thoughtful gesture! Here are some ideas.
- Red white and blue rice crispy pops
- Build your s’more kit
- Fourth of July M&M cookies
- Red white and blue chocolate-covered pretzels
- Patriotic fruit kabob
- Red white and blue Oreo balls
- Patriotic candy salad to go
Any kind of dessert favor is always a hit! All you need is clear treat bags, a cute ribbon, and a basket for all of your goodies! For more inspiration, check out my Pinterest @Love, laurenmarie.
